Wapping

Walk along Wapping High Street and admire the converted warehouses, the old walkways between buildings and the cobbled streets.

Turn left into Tench Street, home to the John Orwell Sports St Patrick's ChurchCentre (1), the health club where Bridget Jones sheds the pounds on an exercise bike in Bridget Jones's Diary. Then turning into Green Bank you will see St Patrick's Church (in picture) (2), the site of the Good Friday service, where Harold Shand's mum narrowly escapes being blown up, triggering the chain of events in The Long Good Friday.

Return to Wapping High Street and near Wapping New Stairs (3) on the riverfront, Harold's Shand's 'Lion and Unicorn' pub was built - and blown up.

Follow Wapping High Street and turn left into Wapping Lane and onwards to Tobacco Dock (in picture) (4). On the right-angle bend of the Ornamental Canal, Bond drenches the traffic wardens before his Q boat leaps up the canal's steps and tears through the 'London Canoe Club' clubhouse alongside the pirate ships in The World's Not Enough.

Make your way to Shadwell DLR station.

Holiday Ideas

A fine walk along Wapping Wall, will take you from St Katherine's Dock (next to HM Tower of London), along Narrow Street, past many wonderful, old riverside pubs with a dark and unsavoury past, to Canary Riverside in the heart of the Docklands. You may also dine at Wapping Food housed in a former hydraulic power station. The machinery has stopped, but can still be seen, in situ, as it now forms part of the décor.
