About TourEast London

TourEast London is a unique example of a successful public/private membership organisation that was established in 1996 to promote the sustainable tourism economy of East London, both north and south of the River Thames. In technical terms, the partnership is a Destination Marketing Organisation (DMO).

TourEast London's core focus is within the boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Greenwich, Hackney, Newham and Lewisham who are all members of TourEast London.

As already mentioned TEL works with the London Development Agency, the strategic and funding body for London, to deliver some of the strategic projects identified in the East London Visitors Development Strategy.

The 2005 East London Tourism Development Strategy highlighted the need for a greater understanding of the needs of stakeholders and for new channels of communication and their ability to access the marketplace. A number of major projects have now been completed and these have been used to inform the new east London marketing and positioning guide as it seeks to draw together key communication strands into a series of coherent initiatives that will make joint marketing opportunities more intelligible to the industry.  A major objective has now been reached with the launch of the new Positioning and Marketing Guide for East London.
